EDC knife with super steel: knives that hardly ever need to be sharpened
The super steel on EDC knives remains sharp, really sharp, for a really long time. As a result, you will rarely need to sharpen the blade. These types of steel, of course, don’t really have superpowers, they are only optimized to retain their sharpness. Because of the high levels of carbon and fancy additions such as vanadium and silicon, these knives retain their sharpness like no other. Different types of super steel
Within the super steel category there are a lot of differences. For example, tool steels stay sharp for a very long time and are relatively easy to sharpen, but are not completely corrosion resistant. On the other hand, there are stainless super steels that also stay sharp for a long time, but are more difficult to sharpen. So each type of super steel has its own advantages and disadvantages, depending on use and maintenance.
Why are knives with blades made from super steel more expensive?
Knives with these types of super steels are often more expensive than other pocket knives. Some types of super steel are three to four times more expensive than a conventional type of steel. This price difference is due to the complex production process.
Even unhardened these types of steel require a lot of sharpening belts, milling heads and other steel processing machines. In addition, proper heat treatment is essential to bring out the full properties of the super steel. This process requires more time, expertise and resources, resulting in a higher price for the knives.
